Frank Church High School’s esports program is a growing, competitive, and academically integrated activity that gives students the opportunity to represent their school in organized gaming while building real-world skills.
The program operates in partnership with the Idaho Esports Association, which coordinates statewide competition and helps standardize rules, scheduling, and competitive structure. Through this organization, students compete against schools from across Idaho in a structured league environment.
Esports at Frank Church is currently designated as a spring sport, with an official competitive season that mirrors traditional athletics. At the same time, the program is part of a broader effort to achieve full sanctioned sport status at the high school level, reflecting its increasing legitimacy and growth in participation.
Students can compete in a wide range of titles, including:
-
Rocket League
-
Fortnite
-
Valorant
-
Overwatch
-
Marvel Rivals
-
iRacing
-
Super Smash Bros.
-
Apex Legends
Additional games are available through club and intramural play, allowing more students to get involved regardless of skill level or competitive focus.
A key feature of the program is the Pathways Esports class, which blends academics with competition. In this course, students:
-
Form and manage teams
-
Develop communication and leadership skills
-
Practice game strategy and analysis
-
Prepare for weekly competitions against other Idaho schools
This classroom-to-competition model ensures that students aren’t just playing—they’re learning teamwork, critical thinking, and performance under pressure.
Overall, the Frank Church High School esports program offers a modern extracurricular experience that combines competition, education, and career exploration, positioning students for opportunities both inside and outside of gaming.

🌟 Pathways at FCHS
Explore. Reset. Connect. Grow.
Pathways is a unique daily 30-minute class designed to give students choice, voice, and balance during their school day. Instead of a traditional class, students choose from a variety of engaging options to explore their interests, build skills, and recharge.
🧭 What is Pathways?
Pathways is a student-choice experience where learners select a class each quarter based on their interests. These classes range from creative and artistic outlets to physical activity, academic support, leadership, and career exploration.
Students stay in their selected Pathways class for the entire quarter, allowing them to build skills, relationships, and a sense of belonging.
Examples of Pathways options include:
- Creative activities like journaling, crochet, or crafts
- Physical activities like basketball, hacky sack, or disc golf
- Academic support and current events discussions
- Leadership opportunities and student-run programs
- Interest-based learning like music, movies, or esports
🧠 Why Pathways Matters
Pathways is intentionally designed to support the whole student.
Students use this time to:
- Reset and regulate their nervous system during the school day
- Discover new hobbies and interests
- Build relationships with peers and staff
- Strengthen social-emotional skills
- Develop independence and responsibility
It’s not just a break—it’s a purposeful pause that helps students return to learning more focused and engaged.
🚀 Starting at FCHS: Onboarding Pathway
When students first arrive at FCHS, they participate in a special Onboarding Pathway.
This introductory experience helps students:
- Get familiar with the school environment
- Learn about available resources and supports
- Build connections with staff and peers
- Understand expectations and opportunities at FCHS
🎯 Expectations for Students
While Pathways is flexible and fun, it also comes with clear expectations:
- Active participation is required
- Students are expected to engage and contribute to the class community
- Pathways is a phone-free environment
- Students may reflect on their learning and engagement
- Success is based on engagement and meeting learning intentions
🤝 Building Community
Pathways is about more than individual choice—it’s about connection.
Students are encouraged to:
- Contribute positively to their group
- Build strong relationships
- Try new things and take healthy risks
- Find activities that bring them joy and fulfillment
💡 A Space for Growth
Whether a student wants to:
- Learn a new skill
- Relax and recharge
