Principal's Corner

The school year is well underway and it has been a pleasure getting to know the students and hearing of their accomplishments! Our staff has worked hard to provide a range of learning opportunities for all our students.

Annual Notification Regarding Public Release of Student Directory Information
The Boise School District complies with federal law (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) as it relates to the release of student directory information to the public. To learn more, log on to www.boiseschools.org and navigate to Parents & Patrons > Parent Information > FERPA Form. Or, please call the Clerk of the Board at 208-854-4123 to obtain a copy of the FERPA form.
 

St. Luke's Mobile Care

S.t Luke's mobile clinic is at Frank Church weekly on Tuesdays from 12:00pm- 3pm. 
What they offer:
  • Wellness Visits: For students not currently established with a primary care provider or medical home. These patients may be new to the area or have not accessed the medical system due to personal or financial barriers.
  • Sport Physicals: Expedite sport clearance for athletes.
  • Behavioral Health: Support for ADHD, anxiety, depression, frequent stomach aches/pain, learning or development concerns.
  • Immunization Catch-up: Ensure all students are protected against preventable diseases.

Parking Permits

All students parking vehicles in the FCHS parking lot are required to have a parking permit.
  • Permits are $10.00.
  • See Ms. Ryan in the main office or go to the FCHS webstore to get your parking permit before you get a ticket.
 

Dedication Point Field Trip

On October 28th Mr. Smith's Horticulture and Biology classes will join raptor biologist and restorationist Steve Alsup for a trip to the Snake River overview. We will observe golden eagles, prairie falcons, and other raptors, plant native plants for restoration, and collect native seed. This is all part of an ongoing habitat restoration project with the Friends of the Birds of Prey.

CELEBRATIONS!

Bogus Basin Field Trip

On Friday September 18th the Environmental Science classes visited Bogus Basin to hike and learn more about the Treasure Valley watershed. We really enjoyed our time on the mountain and learned a lot about plants and wildlife in the region. We want to say THANK YOU to Bogus Basin for your generosity to our school and making this field trip possible.

Carrion Flower Blooms!

This September we had a type of carrion flower bloom in the greenhouse. Though not super common in most cases, it can be a regular occurrence given the right conditions. The carrion flower (Raflesia gigantea) uses a trick to move its pollen around. It looks and smells like carrion--rotting flesh. It does this to attract pollinators to the flower, so that it can move pollen from one flower to another. Flies and some beetles are attracted to the flower, and lay their eggs on the flower. When they repeat this on another flower, they transfer the pollen and ensure flowers can make seeds. This smelly deception makes it a unique occurrence and opportunity for students to learn about pollination.
