Boise, Idaho – October 9, 2017 – To recognize the National School Lunch Program and the 30 million children it serves every day, Boise schools is recognizing National School Lunch Week this week, October 9-13, 2017.  The theme, “Recipes for Success” is an opportunity to highlight several Boise School recipes that are made from scratch and have students try new menu items. Additionally, we are recognizing Boise High School’s Community Garden by adding fresh herbs from their garden to our homemade lasagna, which every school in the district will serve. Students participating in National School Lunch Week will also have the opportunity to win prizes.

“National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the benefits of our lunch program, and the appealing choices we offer.” said Program Supervisor, Peggy Bodnar. “The recipes we are highlighting this week are a few of the students’ favorites.  We also have recipe cards available so students can try making the dishes at home.”

The federally-funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students every day. The program, which has been serving the nation’s children for over 60 years, requires school meals to meet federal nutrition standards like offering fruits and vegetables every day, serving whole grain-rich foods, and limiting fat, calories, and sodium.

The “Recipes for Success” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association. Parents and students can follow the fun using the hashtag #NSLW17. For more information on National School Lunch Week, visit and/or
